Athelites Player Rating System Improves Parkville Basketball Team
Parkville’s varsity basketball team may rise in the metropolitan area rankings next year, according to free athlete ratings provided by Ephraim Dorsey, founder of Athelites. By calculating players’ speed, agility, and basketball skill in twenty areas and comparing those results to the ideal athlete, Dorsey discovered the untapped potential in each player.
“If the kids can see the importance of training to maximize their God-given ability, I think there’s a benefit,” says Rod Norris, head coach of Parkville High School’s varsity men’s basketball team. “When you have someone come out and measure these areas, and the kids see they have room to grow, it’s a motivator. The training has pumped them up right away. They see what they want to work on to get stronger and be more explosive next year. We’ve had very good practices since the testing, and I attribute that to Athelites.”
Ronald Nickelson, Parkville’s top ranked player, says that his rating, “made me train harder.”
Despite not offering scholarships to players, Parkville ranks among the top 15 schools in the metropolitan area. “We’ve had some good kids in the school, and they’ve worked hard and managed to be really competitive for the last two years,” Norris says.
Athelites’ goal is to help coaches play games and train players more effectively. “We try to test the kids and show the coach that maybe they have attributes he’s never seen in practice. A lot of times the coaches will say, ‘I didn’t know the kid was that fast or could jump that high.’ With the rating system, it’s all facts and numbers,” explains Dorsey.
Athelites was founded in 1999 to provide young athletes with training, skills, and guidance in a nurturing environment. They offer evaluations and training in soccer, basketball, and lacrosse for children in middle school, high school and college.
